The objective of this effort is to investigate the application of nonlinear signal processing techniques to the suppression of jammer signals that are potential threats to BMD radars. A broad class of potential jamming signals are identified on the basis of their statistical and spectral characteristics. Six candidate nonlinear processing techniques, which were investigated for their applicability to the various jamming signals, are discussed. Three techniques are identified as applicable for BMD signal processors. These techniques were implemented in simulated signal processors, and their advantage over conventional matched filters was determined for several categories of jamming signals. (Author)
