Picture-Word Interaction: Implications for Speeded On-Line Processing and Delayed Memory Retrieval

Concrete and abstract words were processed similarly, in a lexical decision task, suggesting that concrete and abstract words are not represented in a different form. In sequential presentation of pictures and words at 8 items per second, a target specified by category was equally rapid for pictures and words. In a masking study, scenes presented for 110 msec showed only a small level of interference from a following picture, when the masking picture was always the same. (Author)
