Temperature Profiles of Rail Transported Ordnance. Part 1. Desert Environment.

The Naval Weapons Center has been involved in the measurement of ordnance temperatures since 1964. This report describes conditions experienced by ordnance-carrying rail stock in extreme desert environments during the period 1970 through 1977. Results of temperature measurements are given, and cumulative probability figures that are usable in predicting temperatures that are likely to be experienced by ordnance-loaded boxcars and flatcars are presented.
