Durability Methods Development. Volume III. Structural Durability Survey: State-of-the-Art Assessment

A structural state-of-the-art assessment was conducted to evaluate the durability of previous and existing aircraft structures. The assessment includes data obtained from literature, previous and current programs, and visits to all Air Force Air Logistics Centers. Results for each major Air Force aircraft type are summarized showing trends in structural and material degradation. The most frequently occurring in-service structural problems, in order of occurrence, were found to be cracking, corrosion and fastener-related problems.
