A Means of Specifying Infrared Properties of Camouflage Materiel to Defeat False-Colour Surveillance

It is shown theoretically that, when two objects are matched for visual colour, the degree of match in false-colour imagery is determined uniquely by the ratio of two spectrally weighted reflectances. A suitable set of weighting functions is derived, and ratios computed from this are shown experimentally to be strongly correlated with colour differences in false-colour photography of eucalyptus forest and plastics materials.
