Measurement of Pumped Superluminal Electromagnetic Radiation

摘要

A new source of radiation has been postulated that occurs when a charged particle, moving with a velocity greater than the velocity of light in a medium, is caused to oscillate about its transverse beam line by means of a static, periodic magnetic or electric field or by means of an incident transverse wave. Experiments were conducted to measure this new source of electromagnetic shock radiation, and compare it to Cerenkov radiation, a known source of electromagnetic shock radiation. The preliminary results agree with predictions of Schneider and Spitzer, but the present accuracy is not sufficient to rule out alternative theories. (Author)
