Transformer Core Clamp

This report describes a transformer core clamp that increases both the clamping force applied to a center leg of the transformer core and the shock resistance of the transformer core. The clamp is constructed with opposed clamp plates on the outward facing sides of opposed core members. The outward facing sides of the core members are tapered from the midsection of the core member to the ends of the core members. The plates are connected by tension members and fasteners which are adjustable to tighten the plates against the core members. The tension members are positioned at opposed ends of the core and on either side of a core midsection adjacent the center leg of the core. The clamp plates abut the midsection of the core members and, with the end tension members, act as a lever arm to exert increased compressive force on the midsection of the core members adjacent the center leg. The midsection tension members apply additional compressive force on the center leg to reduce the air gap and the noise of the transformer and increase the shock resistance of the core thus preventing misalignment of the core members.
