An in vitro technique was developed to evaluate the ability of various filling techniques to fill an artificial standard canal system. No significant difference was noted in volume changes over a two-week period between lateral condensation, vertical (warm) condensation or compaction (mechanical) condensation. The ability of the techniques to replicate the canal was statistically analyzed. It was found that the compaction technique was significantly better than the lateral technique (p less than 0.01), and the vertical technique was significantly better than compaction technique (p less than 0.001). The compaction technique was significantly the fastest. (Author)
