摘要

A new way of investigating the oxygen induced triplet state transitions of simple organic molecules is presented. The method involves dissolving the organic along with oxygen in hydrocarbon liquids such as propane, ethane, or propene. Both triplet B(lu) from singlet A(lg) and triplet E(lu) from singlet A(lg) transitions of C6H6 and C6D6 are studied in this work. These results indicate that both triplet states and their vibrational spacings are quite sensitive to the environment. The suggested dominant feature of the triplet B(lu) state of C6H6 is nu(8) (916 per cm) of e(2g) symmetry. Observed triplet state intensity enhancement is believed to be due to a non-statistical oxygen/benzene van der Waals complex formed in the low temperature liquid. (Author)
