Support Systems for Military Families: The Military Takes Care of Its Own -- Sometimes

Since the military family is the primary social support system that protects the service member from both physiological and psychological disorders, it becomes evident that the social support systems available to the military family are of critical importance to the well-being and functional capacity of the service member. Nonetheless, a review of the literature reveals that adequate support systems for military families have been generally lacking in past years. However, in recent years, interest by the military system has increased in the areas of both family research and service for families. (Author)
