Composite Environmental Statement for Operations and Maintenance of Four Projects in the Mermentau Basin, Louisiana.

This project provides for maintenance dredging of a 3,000-square foot flood control channel in the Mermentau River from Grand Lake to the northern end of Lower Mud Lake, a distance of 18 miles; maintenance dredging of a 3,000-square foot flood control channel in the Inland Waterway between Grand Lake and White Lake, a distance of 6.5 miles; maintenance dredging of a 3,000-square foot flood control channel in the Inland Waterway between White Lake and Vermilion Bay, a distance of 12 miles; maintenance dredging of a 6- by 60-foot navigation channel in the North Prong of Schooner Bayou, a total distance of 5 miles; maintenance dredging of a 5- by 40-foot navigation channel from White Lake to Pecan Island, a distance of 2 miles; and operation and maintenance of two water control structures at Catfish Point and Schooner Bayou. Environmental impacts result from (a) disposal of dredged materials, and (b) operation and maintenance of the barrier structures during rice irrigation season to prevent saltwater intrusion into the upper river and Grand and White Lakes.
