摘要

The results of a design study for a deep ocean impulsive sound source are described. The intended use of the source is for sub-bottom profiling at deep ocean depths(3.4 km - 8.0 km). The device consists of a fluid filled sphere with movable piston in its wall plus necessary hydraulic power and control elements. The piston is slowly cocked against the sea pressure head and suddenly released, achieving a high velocity before its motion is terminated in a dashpot. Design parameters for the acoustic source and results of computer simulation are included. (Author)
