Equipment for Automated Loading and Assembly of Mortar Propelling Charges M204 (60-mm) and M205 (81-mm)

This report covers the design, build, and test of prototype automated equipment to load, assemble, and pack the mortar propelling charges M204 (60-mm) and M205 (81-mm). The system produces 108 increments per minute. It is a nonsynchronous system with nine individual stations which weigh the container and propellant, fill the container, form and seal the tab, check the seal and assembly weight, and carry out critical inspections. The system is coordinated by a programmable logic controller which also collects and retains critical data. The system is to be installed on the mortar increment line at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant. (Author)
