Measurement of the Headband Force of Circumaural Hearing Protectors

This paper contains a brief history of the measurement of the headband force of circumaural hearing protectors followed by a description of a force meter developed whilst the author was a member of staff of the Institute of Sound and Vibration of the University of Southampton. It is now intended that an improved version of this device shall be built at RAE for the purpose of measuring the force with which the earshells of a flight helmet are compressed against the head of a wearer.
