Sea Ice Rubble Formations in the Bering Sea and Norton Sound, Alaska

The occurrence of large, grounded pressure ridge formations up to 15 m high in the coastal waters of Norton Sound and the Bering Sea is discussed. These formations periodically float free and drift about, gouging the seabed. Their mass makes them a severe threat to both floating and bottom-founded structures in these waters. (Author)
