摘要

This study examined the cost effectiveness of initiating an inpatient hospice program in an Army treatment facility, Madigan Army Medical Center. The data examined were derived retrospectively from established hospices. This study concluded that establishment of a hospice in a military facility would probably be cost effective. Due to the restrictions against hospices in the military facilities the author proposes an alternative system. The proposed 'Continuing Care Unit' offers the advantages of the hospice while not using the facilities of the hospital.
