Linear Programming: A Resource Allocation Methodology for Dental Managers.

The use of mathematical programming in health care has increased markedly in the past decade. This paper addresses the use of one form of mathematical programming, linear programming, for resource allocation, and provides an overview of the technique through the use of graphical examples relating to dentistry. The linear programming model is described and its interpretation is illustrated through the use of a sensitivity analysis. The role of the dental program managers as consumers of linear programs is discussed. (Author)
