The generalizability of the correlates of organizational commitment is examined using two definitions of commitment. Personal, job, organizational, and labor market variables are examined in relation to organizational commitment and employee turnover. Results for Taiwan workers are generally similar to published studies of U.S. and Japanese workers, with some exceptions. The definition of organizational commitment does make a difference. Implications for commitment and turnover research are discussed. (Author)
