Cultural Resources Literature Search and Records Review - Upper Mississippi River Basin. Volume 2. Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls and Pool 1.

The objectives of the investigation were to: 1. conduct a comprehensive review of existing records and review published and unpublished literature; 2. provide an evaluation of recorded cultural resources; and 3. prepare a detailed technical and popular report. Site-specific information was compiled for both historic and prehistoric sites from stat agencies in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and from various local and regional institutions. More than 1,000 historically or architecturally significant sites and districts, and more than 1,400 prehistoric archaeological components were recorded and plotted on base maps. From the site configurations and from other data collected during the course of the records and literature review, a narrative framework for the interpretation of historic and prehistoric sites was developed. Recommendations to enhance the management of the archaeological and historical data base were provided. Volume 2 focuses specifically on Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls, and Pool 1. Detailed information regarding the nature and distribution of prehistoric archaeological sites are unavailable; however, historically or architecturally significant structures are well represented, including the Pillsbury A Mill, The Cappelen Memorial Bridge and the Minnehaha State Park Historic District.
