Comparison of Airborne Turbulence-Indicating Doppler Radar Systems with Ground-Based Doppler Radar Systems

To promote air safety, FAA has undertaken the task of maintaining current knowledge of the state of the design of turbulence-indicating weather radars. The airborne turbulence-indicating radar is a translation of ground-based radar technology to the airborne environment. Comparisons are made between data sets of the airborne turbulence-indicating radars and a ground-based Doppler radar with turbulence (second moment) capabilities. No comparison is intended between the airborne systems. (Author)
