Endocrinological Responses to the Administration of Nicotine: Interactions with Drug Initiation, Conditioned Effects, and Conditions of Stress.

The present study used a within subjects (rabbits) design to investigate the effects of the chronic intermittent intravenous administration of nicotine on several endocrinological and biochemical parameters which may contribute to the physiological determinants and health consequences of cigarette smoking. Specifically, measurements were made of plasma concentrations of catecholamines (norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine), corticosterone, glucose and insulin.
