Programmable Time-Delay Devices

摘要

Three new voltage-controlled devices are proposed for obtaining N2 (N to the 2nd power) distinct time delays in the 0.1 to 10 ns range using 2N fiber optic strands of differing lengths and 2N electro-optical switching elements. A combination of integrated optics and single-mode fiber optics is utilized. These 2-stage devices have application in microwave phased-array antennas for electronic beamsteering. When multiple delays are selected, the devices will serve as voltage-tuned optical transverse filters.
