Application of Anthropometric Survey Data to Aircrew Clothing Sizing

Since completion of the 1970/71 anthropometric survey of 2000 Royal Air Force aircrew, the Protective Equipment Section of Flight Systems (Farnborough) Department has made full use of the acquired data to support its advisory role on aircrew protective clothing sizing. Computer analysis of the data has been undertaken to provide sizing information relevant to a variety of garment types and numerically different size-rolls. This Report outlines the general approach adopted for the sizing of body-cover garments and headgear. The influences of the choice of control dimensions and subsidiary measurement range limitation upon the size-rolls for aircrew one-piece coverall type garments are discussed.
