摘要

This document pertains to a feasibility study in the design and manufacture of a composite drive shaft and propeller shaft for the LVTP (7) amphibious vehicle. The report shaft contains an analysis of the present steel shaft design and the two design approaches to a composite drive shaft. The first is a two piece drive shaft; the second is a combined single drive shaft eliminating several other parts. The design section includes the design of a joint to interface between the steel couplings and the composite shaft. The second part of this study is a manufacturing analysis of the production of 2,000 shafts for the actual retrofitting of the vehicle. It includes individual sections on fabrication, machining, and assembly of the proposed composite drive shaft.
