SHIPFIT - A Computer Program for Determining the Added Masses of Ships and Submersibles

SHIPFIT, a computer program that calculates the added mass per unit length of ship or submersible, is described. A conformal mapping technique is used that is widely employed in problems permitting a strip theory approach. The scheme differs form other published methods in that the ship form is initially fitted t a cubic spline function. The coefficients of the conformal transformation are then obtained form the cubic spline function by a least squares iteration technique. (Author)
