Treatment of Hymenolepis Nana with a Single Oral Dose of Praziquantel

Hymenolepis nana infection is common in Egyptian children. Until recently the treatment of choice here has been with a seven-day course of niclosamide (NAGATY et al., 1962; EL-MASRY et al., 1974). In 1981, praziquantel became available to use for treating schistosomiasis and over 200 patients received this drug in hospital. Many of these patients were also infected with H. nana. This paper reports on the effect of praziquantel on this cosmopolitan cestode infection.
