GHQ Air Force: Political Orphan or Evolutionary Process

Investigates whether General Headquarters Air Force was formed as a political expedient to stifle the bid for a separate air force or whether it served a useful purpose in meeting national objectives. Examines the seven-year history of the organization from 1935-1942, giving special attention to its antecedents and accomplishments. Devotes major sections to conflicts between the GHQ Air Force and the Air Corps and the development of doctrine. Concludes with lessons on the contribution of the GHQ Air Force and its mistakes in advocating the doctrine of strategic bombardment. (Author)
