摘要

Throughout this century, the plate working industry has searched for improved techniques for the production of cylindrical hollow sections (hereinafter called shells) out of steel and other metal plates. A series of different techniques and machines have been developed. Improved and progressed to cope with the ever growing complexity of this industry, these technological changes demand continuous advances in machinery and techniques to keep up with the ever expanding program of the plate shop, brought about by the use of high alloy steel, considerable increase in plate thickness and demand for high dimensional accuracy.
