摘要

This chapter is a critical synthesis of the field of gastropod learning, covering in particular the findings on the sea slugs Aplysia, Hermissenda, Limax, and Pleurobranchaea. The review covers nonassociative forms of learning, such as sensitization and habituation, as well as associative forms. The analysis includes behavioral, physiological, cellular, and biochemical aspects of learning. Emphasis is placed on generating a view of whole-animal behavior, and the suggestion is made that an understanding of the integrative properties of the nervous system requires a reformulation the concept of the 'neurocircuit' to include emergent, self-organizational mechanisms.
