Data Reduction Techniques used in the Determination of Precipitation Rates from Electronic Weight Measurements

The United States Air Force Geophysics Laboratory has been investigating the characteristics of precipitation using specifically designed instruments (Plank, et al, 1983) that were constructed in the Laboratory. Two of these devices, the rain-rate and snow-rate meters, use electronic balances to measure time-resolved, precipitation weights (Plank and Berthel, 1983) from which rates are determined.
