Cost Determination Model for the Functional Context Training Revision of Basic Electricity and Electronics Training

This study is an examination of the use of a cost determination model in assessing the costs associated with Navy training courses. Derived from a foundation of fundamental principles and cost concepts found in the structure of the Navy's training system, instructional methodologies, and economic analysis, a cost determination model known as COSTDEMO was constructed. The model was designed to provide an analyst or manager with a single, dollar cost of a course of instruction. Using the Navy's Functional Context Training (FCT) project program revision of Basic Electricity and Electronics (BE/E) training as a case study, COSTDEMO was used to compute the training costs associated with the three methods of instruction being evaluated by the project. A cost analysis was made between the alternatives from the cost data provided by the model.
