Convenient Syntheses of Dodecamethylcyclohexasilane und Decamethylcyclopentasilane

Dodecamethylcyclohexasilane (1) is obtained in 80% yield by the reaction of dimethyldichlorosilane with lithium in THF at 0C, in the presence of 1,1,1-trimethyltriphenyl-disilane as a catalyst. Photolysis of 1 in a mixture of pentane and triethylsilane produces decamethylcyclopentasilane, isolated in 44% yield.
