摘要

Satellite observations of polar cap emissions in the 800 to 1400A band are reported. The data were obtained along the noon midnight meridian on March 22, 1979, by the EUV spectrometer on board the STP78-1 satellite. The time averaged spectrum shows no molecular band emissions. Several bright atomic oxygen lines are present in the spectrum. Weak signals from atomic nitrogen are also seen. We speculate that these emissions are caused by particles having similar characteristic energy to those producing emissions observed in the dayside cusp during the same pass.
