Cesium Iodide cluster ions of masses up to 16241 daltons, produced from Cesium Iodide by desorption with Cesium ions, have been measured by Fourier-transform mass spectrometry. With the 3 tesla magnet used, m/z 16241 corresponds to the low frequency limit of the detection system, but has an abundance 0.1% of that the most intense peak. Ion residence times of milliseconds, far longer than those in conventional instruments, accentuate the differences in relative abundances found for these cluster ions due to 'cubic-like' stability differences. Despite this increased ion dissociation, the summed relative abundances for higher masses are equivalent to or greater than those found using magnetic sector and time-of-flight instruments.
