United States Army Low Back Pain Workshop

The purpose of the workshop was to share current information on back pain issues and bring safety, health, and personnel experts together to find solutions to the problems. The objective as stated by the Executive Committee is: To develop policies and programs to support the Presidential and SAFE Army 1990 goals to reduce claims and costs associated with low back injuries. This will include efforts in the areas of education, prevention, and management. Presentations covered: Low Back Pain; The Chelsea Back Program; Management of Back Complaints at Eastman Kodak; Monitoring of Back Cases; Office of Workers' Compensation of Low Back Project; Training Workers to Recognize Workplace Back Hazards; The Army Low Back Problem; Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) Program; Navy Back Injury Prevention Program; Striving to Prevent Back Injury, A Historical Perspective; The Data Picture--Collection and Use; An Approach to the Reduction of Injuries and Subsequent Claims Involving the Back in DOD - A Synopsis; 'Back' on the Job Safety; The National Guard Bureau's Perspective on Back Injury Control; and FORSCOM's Perspectives on Back Injury Control.
