Experimental Use of Fibrin Sealant for Skin Graft Fixation in Mandibular Vestibuloplasty

The present study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Fibrin Adhesive System (FAS) as a method for fixation of skin grafts to the alveolar ridge without the use of a stent or fenestration of the graft. The FAS has been used by oral surgeons in Europe since the early 1970s. A two-component system made from human plasma, it promotes hemostatis and wound healing, and seals tissue. The FAS has been used for dural closure, skin grafting, and anastomoses of peripheral nerves, as well as for control of postextraction hemorrhage in patients with bleeding dyscrasias.
