Evolution of Hurricane Gloria during Passage Over New England

Evolution of Hurricane Gloria as the system leaves the ocean, crossing Long Island, and traverses the land surface of New England was observed through standard hourly surface observations, radar reflectivity factor, and satellite visible and infrared imagery data. The changes in height and structure of storm tops, the areal organization of the radar reflectivity factor and the orographical influences on the precipitation distribution, are discussed. These parameters are utilized to understand the evolution and dissipation of the hurricane as it advances over the land surface.
