Measured Probability Density Function of a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) Output

The behavior of the Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) is difficult to describe analytically, especially when noise is present at the input because the system is nonlinear. In this report, the noise behavior of the PLL is determined experimentally. Experimental results show that the probability density function of the PLL output for a variety of input signals which are each corrupted by additive Gaussian noise, resembles the Gaussian density function.
