Crosslinkable Polyesters for Biomedical Composites.

摘要

There are considerable research activities in the area of polymeric materials in medicine (2-7). Of special interest to use are polymers suitable for the construction of artificial organs. Many of the existing polymers with good chemical and physical properties for nonmedical applications often display undesirable side effects once implanted in the human body. The specifications which apply to polymers used as substitutes for internal organs are very severe. The polymers must have the following properties: appropriate chemical and physical structure to provide desirable useful life time in the body; ability of being sterilized and absence of contaminant. Moreover, the polymers must not induce tumor formation, autileukotactic response, thrombus formation, and inflammatory encapsulation or cell modification in the surrounding tissue. All these requirements greatly reduce the number of polymers which are potential candidates for biomedical applications.
