Effects of Transition from DoD (Department of Defense) to ISO (International Standards Organization) OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Communication Protocols

The purpose of the IDA Paper is to analyze the results of the Federal Government's transition to the ISO OSI communication protocols as mandated by the Government Open System Interconnection Profile (GOSIP). The document analyzes the interoperability issues that will affect the communications between C2Is during the transition from DoD to ISO protocols. Information for the analysis was gathered from the open (unclassified) literature, correspondence with protocol implementors on the ARPANET, attendance at the NBS OSI Implementors workshop, and the authors' implementation experience with communications protocols.
