Processing the Army's Wartime Replacements: The Preferred CONUS Replacement Center Concept

This thesis developed two mathematical models to assist in the analysis of the role of the CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) in the Army's Wartime Replacement System. The first model, the macro model, was a network flow model which was used to analyze the flow of replacements from their source through the CRC to the theater of operation. The second, micro, model, was a simulation which assisted in the analysis of the internal operations of the individual CRCs. Through the analysis of the macro model, recommendations were made on how the CRC system should be configured in terms of size, location and number so as to satisfy the replacement demands of the theaters. The simulation model served as a tool to understand the functional and resource requirements the CRC places on its operators and its host installation. After a review of the practical implications that effect an Army system during war, a preferred CRC concept was recommended.
