Mosquito Information Management Project (MIMP): Application of a Computerized General Purpose Information Management System (SELGEM) to Medically Important Arthropods (Diptera: Culicidae)

The Mosquito Information Management Project was established in September 1979 to develop a computer-based systematic and ecologic database for the approximately one million mosquito specimens in the National Museum of Natural History collection. This collection is the largest and most complete mosquito collection in the world and represents a national treasure. The conversion of the Smithsonian Institution's mosquito data bank from Self-Generating Master (SELGEM) to the new SI IBM 4381 mainframe was completed. Augmenting this data bank, is the establishment of a bibliographic database of mosquito literature, complete with access and query capabilities. Keywords: Culicidae, Diptera. (kt/aw)
