Recent unpublished studies indicate job dissatisfaction exists in nurses performing direct patient care on inpatient nursing units. The purpose of this study is to identify possible causes of job dissatisfaction by reviewing job requirements of Air Force clinical inpatient nurses and by analyzing perceptions of inpatient charge nurses and chief nurses. The study concludes there are areas for concern related to job satisfaction on inpatient nursing units in the Air Force. Recommendations on how nurses can improve this situation are offered. (sdw)
