A novel nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique has been employed for the estimation of the dielectric constant of several organophosphorus and organosulfur liquids. The dipole moment was calculated employing the Onsager approximation for neat liquids. The dielectric constant measurement is based on an empirical phase control tuning method reported in the literature for application to complex biochemical solution media. The dielectric constant accuracy is reported to be 2.6%. The precision was measured to be + or - 7.6% (95% confidence interval). Relative to measurement techniques for dilute solutions, the NMR method was found to be relatively straightforward, especially for the toxic and hygroscopic organophosphorus, organosulfur, and related liquids investigated.
