In complex computing environments, such as banking systems, travel agency systems, and power control systems, robustness is an important criterion that determines the quality of software. The ability of the software to handle hardware errors and erroneous inputs is defined as software robustness, and system software reliability is a useful measure of it. This paper introduces a new technique to compute software system reliability (SSR). Our method, called FARE (Fast Algorithm for Reliability Evaluation), does not require a priori knowledge of multiterminal connections (MC's) for computing the reliability expression. This reprint attempts to solve the problem of N-version programming by using the FARE approach. Examples illustrate the technique. (kr)
