Novel Imidazolium Oximes as Improved Nerve Agent Antidotes

Four compounds from a large series of N,N disubstituted imidazolium - aldoximes have been identified in the mouse as potential lead candidates for an improved nerve agent antidote. The potency and efficacy of these compounds in combination with atropine were evaluated against lethality from the nerve agents soman, sarin, tabun, and VX. Also, we evaluated the effect of the imidazolium oximes on recovery from debilitation 24 hours after soman poisoning. The results suggest that the imidazolium oximes, as a class, may have much utility in the treatment of nerve agent poisoning.
