摘要

Understanding the relation between product distributions and initially prepared parent states is crucial to understanding of photodissociation dynamics. The absorption spectra of several fast dissociating Nitrogen Oxide-containing compounds (e.g., HONO, CH3ONO) exhibit diffuse progressions in the NO stretch, and strong correlation between the excited vibration in S1 and the NO vibrational distribution has been found and interpreted in terms of predissociation on S1. In this Communication, we demonstrate the influence of bending excitation in the upper electronic state on product rotational distributions. We show that in NOCl, parent NO stretch is transformed into product NO vibration, whereas bending evolves to rotational distributions that depend strongly on the number of bending quanta in the excited state.
