Originally conceived as a product-development project for skin protectant polyurethane films, this project underwent a shift in emphasis when it was determined that the films being tested were of limited utility as protectants vs. the mustard stimulant 2-chlorethyl, ethyl sulfide (2-CEES). With this shift in emphasis, efforts were concentrated on the development of methodology suitable for assessing skin protective efficacy. An exercised skin extraction model was developed, with which one measures intradermal penetration and accumulation of stimulants (or agents), along with possible metabolites, in the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin.
