Thermodynamics of Kinetically Irreversible Organometallic Processes. Metal-Metal Bonds

By using a series of chemically reversible, electron transfer rapid, reagents the thermodynamics of metal metal bond cleavage for Mn2(CO)10 (i.e., bond dissociation energy, and true thermodynamic potential) can be estimated. Experimentally, this is achieved through a combination of equilibrium experiments and use of rapid-scan cyclic voltammetry.
