Fast Simulation on Small Computers: Modal Dynamics Applied to Volumetric Models.

Many of the problems of simulating complex systems of non-rigid object can be minimized by use of hybrid representations. We describe a system which combines a modal representation of object dynamics with volumetric models of object geometry by use of polynomial deformations describing the deformation due to each mode. BY capitalizing on this representation we can gain up to two orders of magnitude in efficiency without serious loss of accuracy.
